Yesterday we qualified for the State Tournament after finishing in 2nd place out of 24 teams at our regional tournament at the University of North Georgia-Dahlonega. We ended up with 70 points, just 4 points behind eight-time/reigning state champion Brookwood High School. Though they beat us in the end, we were right there beside them the whole way - our teams medaled (top 4) in 20 of 23 events, compared to 21 of 23 for Brookwood. Also, a shoutout to our B team, who finished in 6th place, just one point behind River Ridge High School, and ahead of magnet schools like Wheeler and schools nearly twice our size like Mill Creek.
In seven weeks we'll be competing at the State Tournament, held at Emory University, where we'll be up against 24 teams qualifying at the eight regional tournaments across the state (with the other seven occurring over the next four weeks). The top two teams in the state will be invited to compete at the 2017 Science Olympiad National Tournament, held at Wright State University in Ohio in May.
Note: According to Georgia Science Olympiad policy, the results announced at the awards ceremony are not final, and may be amended if a scoring error is discovered. At awards, Chattahoochee was announced as the first place team by two points. However, after the discovery and correction of an error in Chemistry Lab, Brookwood was ahead of us by 4 points.
Medals were awarded to the 1st-4th place teams in each event, and ribbons to the 5th-10th place teams. Our teams' results are as follows:
